Make Your Brain Happy -- Braintenance

By // No comments:

When your brain is absorbed in a problem-solving task which requires a great deal of visualization, imagination and innovation, it is operating on "all of its cylinders." But if you can consciously convince your brain {which behaves like a small child sometimes) that the tasks which it is undertaking are games (the "gamification of problem-solving"), your brain will be even further stimulated as it perceives challenges without consequences for failure. When your game plays games, it is not being nudged by your subconscious mind about past failures or the possibility of additional failures.

There is a wonderful website which I'd like to share with you in order to assist you in getting your brain to light up with sheer pleasure. My suggestion is to play games from this site (you might wish to bookmark it or make it a favorite) whenever you are faced with an uncooperative, exhausted mind. It just might be the tonic that you need to reboot your brain into production mode.

The site is located at http://www.gamesforthebrain.com/ and I would strongly advise all of you Braintenancers to use it whenever you seem to be stuck.

Please give it a try and let me know what you think.

Thank you, as always, for reading me, and for reading The Braintenance Blog.

Meditation: Program Yourself For Success

By // No comments:

Self-hypnosis, NLP, future visualization, subliminal suggestion and the notion of The Law Of Attraction may or may not be part of your belief system. I know that many of our readers of The Braintenance Blog are quite skeptical about anything that they cannot examine fully with their conscious senses -- even then they tend to be doubtful. There is nothing wrong with belief systems, unless they inhibit your self-growth, professional development, achievement of your objectives or your happiness. In such cases, subtle re-programming can and does work wonders.

The secret lies in the ability to open your mind, suspend conditioned disbelief, and simply enjoy the experience. While great expectations are wonderful, they can set you up for disappointment.

My preferred approach is to 'let the experience take me wherever it will,' and to just permit myself to let whatever happens happen.

The best expectation orientation is to just enjoy the experience...to just let it enter you.

After reading the small print on the image below, click on it and listen to a very relaxing imagination exercise in future visioning (provided by Real Subliminal)

Toward the end of the pleasant little mind excursion there is a gentle, no-stress sales discussion. Listen to that as well. You'll find the speaker's voice continuing to be relaxing, without disturbing your mood in the slightest.

Take a bit of time for yourself - Just YOU - And enjoy this audio visual presentation. If you are like I am, you will enjoy the experience more, if you fully relax, eyes closed and just focus in on the voice...Just the voice.

Do try it. Evening seems to work best, and as with all programs such as this one, don't drive or do anything requiring coordination or sharp judgment until a good 15 minutes after the mind journey has ended.

I hope that you've enjoyed your brief journey. While you're in the neighborhood, click on some of the tabs on the home page [right under the blog title heading] and find yourself some mind calisthenics (brain training exercises) to play with.

Your mind is a muscle - the more you exercise it, the more powerful it becomes.

Thank you as always for reading me! :-)

Maintain Your Brain: PLASTICITY

By // No comments:

Plasticity, specifically neuroplasticity, has to do with the brain's:

1) Ability to expand its capacity and capabilities;

2) The ability of neurons to continue to grow and adapt to environmental changes, both within us and outside of our physical bodies but perceivable to our senses, both acknowledged and being discovered;

3) The ability of one neuron to assume the responsibilities and functions of another neuron, should that second neuron be either damaged or otherwise compromised by an increased workload.

4) The longevity of a neuron's life and functioning;

5) The ability (in terms of speed and accuracy) of one neuron to signal or connect with its neighbor intersynaptically.

Frankly, increased or enhanced neuroplasticity are highly desirable in terms of both brain functioning and anti-aging (i.e., maintaining a positive, youthful state.

The following article excerpt appears courtesy of BigThink's Weekly Newsletter, which is an excellent source of information and interesting future-oriented commentary. It is thought-provoking...and thought-provoking means brain-strengthening. When you have finished reading the piece, please click back to this article for some interesting thoughts and conclusions... We'll see you when you return.

For your information, each of the following helps, or may possibly be helpful in increasing the brain's plasticity. Neither this blog nor I am offering medical, health, psychiatric, or any other type of advice...we merely offer you Braintenancers some suggestions, some science, some anecdotal items of interest, and other fun things to ponder -- and perhaps, with your healthcare provider's approval, some things to try.

1) Small amounts of Lithium have been associated with brain longevity, neural regeneration and plasticity in general. This only applies to small amounts of lithium, which in larger doses is highly poisonous;

2) Small amounts of certain other nutritional supplements such as DMEA, Huperzine A, Vinpocetine, and L-AcetylCarnitine have been said to increase neuronal plasticity;

3) All mind exercises [Braintenance] from anagrams and analogies to meditation and mathematical problem-solving have been shown to increase neuronal plasticity;

4) Physical exercise, especially cardiovascular exercises (at least 20 minutes daily) have been shown to increase both neuronal plasticity and heart health, as well as to eliminate some of the symptoms of situational or temporary depression.

It's time for us to get mobilized, get exercised and to get plasticized.
